I Sold My Soul...
... and my instruments broke.

So I had decided that I wasn't going to buy Rock Band for my trusty 360 or any other console, as I had played Guitar Hero II & III, and was pretty much burnt out on being a virtual rockstar. Of course I work in games, so everyone and their dog in my office purchased a copy of Rock Band the day it came out, and try as I might to resist, all it took was for me to sing Bon Jovi's "Wanted Dead or Alive" while a friend played guitar and another played drums, and I was hooked.
So I traded in games. You see, the Holidays have already been very good to me, and my wife lets me open things early. Seeing as how she had already purchased a PS3 for me and an Air Hogs Helix RC Helicopter, I wasn't about to ask Santa to shell out another $170 bucks for Rock Band.
The 8 different games I traded in netted me enough money to buy Rock Band and 4000 gamerpoints for purchasing their awesome downloadable songs (how could I not download CCR's "Fortunate Son"?). After finally tracking a copy down (something that took 10+ phone calls), I raced home, unpacked and plugged in.
Seeing as how I already had plastic guitar experience from my previous touring experience with GH, I went for that first. Just to get comfortable with the new UI and such. 5 songs later, I started missing notes. I thought I was just rusty, but then I started missing more... and more... and more. So I hopped on the ol' message boards for Rock Band and found out I wasn't alone. Hundreds of people were complaining about the same thing, but the manufacturers were being great and promising to second day air replacements out, beginning early next week.
It sucked, but I figured things like this happen, and I decided to give the drums a whirl. 10 songs later, I started missing beats on the drums. I'm no drummer, but I was missing beats that I was clearly hitting. Again I went to the message boards, and again found the same results.
So now I have new drums and a guitar on their way to me, but frankly if the game weren't so addicting, I would have thrown the whole package out the window, or at least returned it for a full refund.
So BEWARE... if you bought Rock Band for your kids for Christmas, you may want to sneak down in the middle of the night, unpack it and try it out. Play 10 songs with each, and make sure that if one is busted, you get Santa to throw some replacements in his sleigh.
The microphone still works. Too bad my vocal abilities are busted.
